Here’s my latest cannabis product review written for Elephant Journal. Take a peak!

For those who love cannabis and love sex, the thought of combining the two is pretty titillating.

Note: elephantjournal.com received these review items for free, in return for a guarantee that we would review said offering. That said, we say what we want—good and bad, happy and sad.

Enter Foria, a marijuana-based oil used before sex.

Foria, made from coconut oil, hash oil (and love), is marketed as a stimulating oil for women, to be directly applied to the lady’s business (if you know what I mean) as a pre-lubricant.

It’s advertised to naturally enhance a woman’s pleasure and heighten orgasms. That’s not all—the oil is also edible, gluten free, sugar free and vegan.

Originating in California last year, Foria is new to the recreational marijuana market in Colorado. This is a novel way to enjoy sex and marijuana. Oh my Goddess, I had to get my hands on a few bottles.

What a fun product review to put together!  Published by LadyBud, link to the review here and check out the accompanying vintage erotica image!

OMG. Cannabis sex lube, it exists!

Between two photos of the “personal lubricant experimental test batch” bottles recently posted on Facebook and Instagram, Colorado manufacturer, Apothecanna, was flooded with a hundred sales inquiries for the personal lube.  This is a hot product, everybody wants some!

But cannabis sex lube doesn’t really exist in the commercial world.  This is a research and development test batch made for kicks and giggles, and the company has no plans of releasing it as a product. There is no way to order it, not in the adult recreational market and not as a medical marijuana patient.  It’s not for sale and this product review is one big tease.

In a chat with James Kennedy, Apothecanna owner, I learned the sex lube recipe is an adaptation of Apothecanna’s popular Lip Buzz, medicated lip balm available in the Colorado medical marijuana market.  Both the personal lube and Lip Buzz contain the same botanical oils and essential oils of cannabis flowers, organic peppermint, organic tea tree, organic rosemary, grapefruit, and ylang ylang. This means the signature smell, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties are the same, making these cosmetic pharmaceuticals or “cosmeceuticals”.

Cannabis flower oil, as a topical ingredient, doesn’t induce a high or have any kind of psychoactive effects. Instead, it stimulates blood flow. Mmm, interesting! Rounding out the list of ingredients is a base of blended gels from flax seeds and aloe and a small amount of silicone.

That’s fascinating and all, but how was the whoopee?  Here’s the method to the sexy madness:  I scored two sample bottles.  I enlisted two horny and vocal volunteers, with their sex partners to kick it with the lube.   I promised not to use their names (high five, thanks for banging!).  Then, like a freaky voyeur/social scientist, I made them fill out a questionnaire asking questions about their knowledge of lubes and natural products and the in-and-out details of their sex experiences with the cannabis lube.  I even asked about ladies squirting with a big O.

The first couple swears by lube. Although new to warming lubes, these lovers have seasoned knowledge of lubes and natural lubes. The natural and organic formulation was a big attraction.

Although my first female tester was initially hesitant to introduce the essential oils to her mucous membranes (that’s the cooter to some readers), she eventually went for it, and it did not irritate the sensitive tissues around her hoo hoo.

“Overall, the cannabis lube had good liquid cohesion, staying where you wanted it to. I liked the globby texture – it stayed slippery without getting sticky,” she reported. “It absorbs into the skin, which is not great for glide.  (But) it didn’t dry sticky on the skin and the scent… the scent of the cannabis lube lingers, you’d remember your lover long into the day.”

The second couple has used natural products, but never a natural lube. No stranger to conventional warming gels, the couple reported “the cannabis seems to add a nice stimulating effect.”  Although not a fan of the “sliminess,” the smell of the lube was enjoyed and the couple had a lot of fun with their first shared experience with sex lube.

The warming or numbing sensation of the lube made for some fun applications during sex for both couples.  The first couple enjoyed “awesome foreplay” and the lube made a “great orgasm chaser”.   For the second couple, performing anal sex was the best part.  Doink!

Multiple orgasms were achieved by both couples.  Everyone had enthusiastic fun with the cannabis sex lube and would like to sample more. Sad to say, neither woman achieved a squirting orgasm, but if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!

Consumer Confidential: Incredibles hash chocolate bar review for LadyBud.com.   Go to Ladybud here.

Heaven can be found in a chocolate bar. Many people experience transcendental bliss through eating chocolate and I have experienced such bliss eating an Incredibles Boulder Bar.

Boulder Bars are delicious, consistent and properly dosed.  Available at various dispensaries throughout Colorado, the bars contain cannabis infused milk chocolate with toffee and almond pieces.

Each Boulder Bar contains 100 mg of activated THC.  The bar is considered one serving size, so the consumer has to do the math to know the approximate dosage for smaller portions.  With the bar scored in 12 squares, three chocolate squares provide 25 mg.

Note: It’s best to start off slowly if you aren’t familiar with the effects of edibles.  Based on experience, I rarely eat an entire edible at one sitting unless it is late at night.  I prefer to consume 25-50mg at a time.

PeanutBuddaBuddha

Sometimes I eat small amounts of medicated chocolate periodically through the day, a very portable and private way to medicate. I carry it along with me and have a piece or two every few hours for a functional level of consistent pain relief. Before a recent photo shoot, I ate two Strawberry Crunch squares to calm my nerves.  The infused chocolate helped me relax.  The effects were long lasting too. Being discreet is one advantage to edibles, because smelling like marijuana smoke may not be advantageous in certain situations.

Another night on the town, I was at a show at the Ogden Theater. I ate half a Boulder Bar and put the rest into a pocket in my jeans.  At the concert, I most enjoyed the feeling of wellbeing I got after eating the bar. I felt free to enjoy the music and performance onstage and experienced such a feeling of peace – I loved it.

Unfortunately, I forgot about the rest of the bar in my pocket until after the show. When I opened the bag, it was a melted mess.  No need to fret, the chocolate was easy to recover.  I placed the bar and wrapper in the fridge and after chilling for a few minutes,  I peeled apart the package seams, and the chocolate was solid again. The dosing squares were lost but the chocolate was fine.

The Boulder Bar is just one of many infused chocolate Incredibles creations made by Medically Correct. Incredibles come in different dosages of THC and flavors. The dosage per bar ranges from 100 mg to 300mg of activated THC from hash oil.  The different flavors of most bars are based in white chocolate or milk chocolate and additional flavors. I like the use of organic fruit in the bars.

Sealed in a silver Mylar bag, each bag has a colorful and professional front label and an information dense back label.  The back label on each bar has a production lot number, bar code, expiration date, list of ingredients, nutrition facts, company information, website and social media contacts. Also listed is a disclosure of hash extractions and legal product disclaimer.

Incredibles’ Peanut Budda Buddha Bar is a 200 mg bar with white chocolate, peanut butter, and pretzels.  The Monkey Bar has organic bananas and walnuts and coconut in milk chocolate and 100 mg THC. The singular dark chocolate bar is the Fire Berry with 300 mg THC, raspberries and habanero peppers. White chocolate Incredibles bars, like the Strawberry Crunch Bar with flax crispies and organic strawberries, are good bars, effectively dosed and taste good overall.

There is some room for Incredibles to raise the bar on infused chocolates.  Bigger chunks of ingredients would make a more artisan chocolate bar. Both the Monkey Bar and the Peanut Budda Buddha Bar would be even more delicious with larger chunks to better distinguish the flavors. The Peanut Budda Buddha is a great tasting bar, but the pretzels chunks were very homogenous. Adding larger chunks would alter the dosage per piece, but it would add to a more enjoyable chocolate eating experience.

Aside from my opinion on the size of flavor chunks, Incredibles infused chocolate bars are simply amazing.  I thoroughly enjoy eating them and feeling grateful and happy.

Consumer Confidential photos: limited edition Hemp Hoodlamb fabric patterns

Here’s a collection of pot culture essentials for the stoners and midnight tokers you know and love.

Across the board marijuana legalization seems to be right around the corner. Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, has dubbed 2013 the “Best Year Ever in Drug Policy Reform,” and says “we’ve hit the tipping point” when it comes to marijuana legalization.

The latest national Gallup poll found a 10 point jump in support for legalization of marijuana, up from 48% last year to 55% this year, and the legalization victories in Colorado and Washington last year were remarkable. On top of that, the entire nation of Uruguay made weed legal last month. There’s much to celebrate.

What better time to revel in these victories than the holidays, and what better way than with fun and funky pot presents and “cannagifts?”

Maybe you live in Colorado or Washington where legalization has already kept thousands out of jail and saved taxpayers millions of dollars, or maybe you just want to spread the joy, humor and social style of that surrounds this miraculous herb as the end of prohibition spreads across the country and the world.

Whatever your motives, here’s a collection of cannabis culture essentials for the stoners and midnight tokers you know and love this holiday season and beyond.

1. Comics and Books:

  • Tales of the World Famous Drive Thru Bud—In this comic book series from Golden Frog Press each tale is laced with cannabis humor. For example in “Sinsemilla Ninjas from Mars” the space ship is hilariously attacked by the Super Spider Mites from Mars. The series is based on characters created by Northern California illustrator Pat Ryan, and the serial characters, Baron Von Bongenheimer, Humboldt Honey and Super Skunk, among others live out their funny high society adventures via brief and hilarious stories.

  • The Emperor Wears No Clothes—Every stoner must have a copy of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, by Jack Herer. Herer is the father of the modern cannabis movement and this book, first published in 1985, is like the “Bible” of the cause. It compiles the historical uses of hemp and marijuana and the political and business developments leading up to modern marijuana prohibition.
  • G.R.A.S.S.—Herer’s 1973 title, G.R.A.S.S. or Great Revolutionary American Standard System: The Official Guide for Assessing the Quality of Marijuana on the 1 to 10 Scale is another underground classic. G.R.A.S.S details a rating system for marijuana quality and a scale to determine your buzz level in the days when Panama Red and Acapulco Gold were mythical varieties of premium imported marijuana.

2. Vape Pens:, Cloud 2.0 by CloudPenz, Trifecta by White RhinoDabOTG, by DabOTG

Vaporizer pens are all the rage right now. Originally developed as a harm reduction tool for tobacco smokers, vape pens offer a convenient, odorless and portable way to puff cannabis. High Times Magazine recently tested 32 new vape pen models. With vigorous and repeated testing, the Cloud 2.0 by Cloud Penz won top honors for Best Mini and Trifecta by White Rhino was named Most Versatile.  Judges favored DabOTG with Best Overall and Best Hit awards.

Designed specifically for hash wax, High Times testers found the Cloud 2.0 pen easy to use and dependable. It comes in a variety of stealth colors or bold fashion patterns.  The Trifecta can vaporize flowers or hash wax and oil, making it the most adaptable vape pen. DabOTG, designed for hash wax, has a glass dome so you can see the vapors and four adjustable heat settings. The ceramic components make the Dab OTG a good choice for air travel.

  • Grassroots California’s flat brim baseball caps—These blasé staples of sun care are crucial to cannabis style today, especially among the younger aficionados. Grassroots California has an extensive online catalog of hats, including artist editions, event and collaboration hats in almost any color or fabric combination. And, most designs have a secret stash pocket hidden within a stylish liner.

  • Visual Fiber’s custom hats—This millennial-savvy business is located only on Facebook, and will custom-paint your chosen caps with in bold images of pop and pot culture. For elevating otherwise common headwear into unique works of art, Visual Fiber hats were the first, second and third place prizes at the recent Secret Cup, a national hash concentrate competition

4. T-shirts:

  • Kill Your Culture Apparel —Kill your Culture Apparel covers its T’s in popular cultural images and icons, with a 420 twist. Darth Vader becomes Darth Vapor as he puffs from a Volcano Vaporizer, while the Good Fellas transform the Dab Fellas. Designs are printed on soft, lightweight combed polyester and cotton blend fabric.

  • Green Man Cannabis—Green Man Cannabis, a Medical Marijuana Center in Denver, designed the coolest yellow tank for women. On it, Wonder Woman saunters through a blue field of stars smoking a jay, her golden lasso at her waist.

5. Lighter Accessory: Kasher

The Kasher is a handy lighter accessory, especially useful to pipe smokers and dabbers. A simple metal sleeve fits snugly onto a BiC lighter, keeping it nearby when needed.

Slide the Kasher down the lighter and use the ingenious tool to stir and empty the pipe.  The newest Kashers, made of thicker stainless steel, can be used as a dab tool for concentrates.  They’re easy to clean and easy to reuse and attach to a new lighter.

  • Chubby Glass—a Boulder, Colorado collective since 2001—makes the Celtic Spoon pipe, a shiny or sandblasted matte hand pipe in white swirled with another color. The bold and simple design is visually appealing and the opaque white pipe always looks tidy. The red and white Celtic Spoon is especially festive for the holidays.

8. Nug Jar: Sirens of the Sea by Kemmish Pottery

Keep your stash in a lovely handmade nug jar from Washington potters, Kemmish Pottery.  Called Sirens of the Sea, jar depicts two sexy mermaids who perch atop a seaside rock overlooking the ocean and sky. It’s a pleasing handmade vessel with a wide mouth and cork lid.  This object d’art is found at the Hempfest Central online store. All purchases from Hempfest Central support the annual production costs of Seattle Hempfest, the largest cannabis event in the world.

I coproduced the Hemp Couture Fashion Show at Seattle Hempfest. I was thrilled to showcase the best hemp clothing companies and designers I know on the runway at the largest cannabis event in the world.  Hemp Hoodlamb, Conscious Clothing, Taos Hemp Company and Earth Creations all presented beautiful and fresh looks for eco fashionistas.    The fashion show was scheduled Friday Saturday and Sunday afternoons during Hempfest and a special walk during the VIP Party.

My best styling happened at the VIP Party. CiCi Dunn with Hemp Hoodlamb mandated edgy styling   on the runway. I took the directive and put together this special look for the VIP Party.   Special thanks to model and industry executive, AC Braddock for doing what I told her to do, it turned out epic!

I’m an enthusiastic consumer and product tester of hemp and marijuana products.  This column showcases  the best of what I see and sample in the marketplace.

Do you eat hemp? You should. Hemp seed is a superfood, it contains all necessary macronutrients, complete protein and healthy polyunsaturated fats.  Hemp seed meat tastes simple, sweet and nutty.  Thankfully, getting the amazing health benefits of hemp is so easy with shelled hemp seeds.

Shelled hemp seed is one of the best innovations in hemp food. There are several brands of shelled hemp seeds, all of comparable and consistent high quality. I like them all, but I like the warmth of Hemp Hearts as a product name. So I tend to buy Hemp Hearts.  Who loves you?

Hemp loves you!

Hemp Hearts makes eating healthier plain and easy. My standard recipe for instant health food is fix whatever I’m eating and then right before serving,  I sprinkle some Hemp Hearts on the  dish.  With  3 tablespoons sprinkled on top,  a  boost of 10 grams of complete protein and  11 grams of  polyunsaturated Omega oils, in the perfect 3 to 1 ratio, gets added to the meal. Simple and easy.  For more hemp nutritional information, go here.

A remedial reminder: You cannot get high from eating hemp food. You cannot eat hemp and test positive for THC.   Any sensation of being high or stoned is purely a placebo effect. It’s fun to pretend though.

Hemp Hearts are made by Manitoba Harvest.   Manitoba Harvest, was founded in 1998, with the goals to educate consumers and manufacture the highest quality hemp foods.   Their ethics and social responsibility are part of the company structure. For example, one of Manitoba Harvest’s company commitments is to use organic and non-gmo food sources. You can be happy knowing your consumer purchasing power is supporting a conscious company and industrial hemp agriculture in North America.

So, start eating hemp regularly.    Hemp Hearts are available in health food stores and vitamin and supplement stores. Go to  http://www.manitobaharvest.com/ for more  information or to order your own Hemp Hearts.

Product review of the Incredibowl m420 Deluxe kit below. Click the link to read the review in The Daily Doobie.

http://issuu.com/dailydoobie/docs/tdd_i10issue

What, exactly, is the Incredibowl? It’s not a vaporizer, it’s a pipe, or, as the company website describes, a “smoke injection system” (patent pending) engineered to filter and cool smoke, thereby reducing tars and enabling a more pleasant smoking experience.  The manufacturer, Boulder, Colorado’s Incredibowl Industries, has won 13 Cannabis Cup awards for their innovative pipes.

The Mycroft Sherlock pipe is for consumers who enjoy pipes, and want the technology of the Incredibowl. The Incredibowl m420 Deluxe has 2 pipes in one kit. The Deluxe model has an m420 Incredibowl, a clear glass Sherlock style pipe called the Mycroft, and replacement parts (always nice to have on hand when needed!). Constructed with high grade and sturdy components, Incredibowls are designed for long term durability. The carrying case is a military grade smell proof hard plastic case with two latches. The m420 tube is clear shatterproof polycarbonate. The external part of the Incredibowl itself is made with high grade aluminum, which acts as “unbreakable armor” for the glass bowl inside, kept in place by FDA-approved high temperature O rings. The small container comes with spare screens, 2 sizes of gaskets and a glass bowl. And the kit comes with instructions. So how many stoners does it take to assemble an Incredibowl m420 Mycroft pipe? I was determined to figure this out. In this instance, it took three people. One person to miss the first step not mentioned on the instructions, another person to make a bunch of phone calls and a feminine voice of experience to point out the obvious.

Granted, most customers are not concerned with ruining a fresh manicure assembling an Incredibowl. In my case, one foul slip and the smooth pale pink coating on my nails could be compromised.  Regardless of these personal high stakes, I couldn’t assemble the Sherlock on my own.  The instructions seemed easy enough, only three diagrams to follow.  Initially, I was trying to put both pipes together, which didn’t fit together, and didn’t look like the diagrams at all.  The result was a Sherlock that looked really happy to see me. After a couple of phone calls, I discovered that the first step is actually disassembling the m420. That means rolling up the silicon gasket sleeve, removing the bowl assembly from the m420 shaft, and then following the diagrams. Insert the bowl into the Sherlock opening, roll the silicone sleeve over the edge and adjust the seating for an airtight fit.  Then add a screen to the bottom of the bowl. It took a couple of pulls and gasket adjustments to get a good draw. At last, with everything properly assembled, I was the happy one!

Smoking an Incredibowl is a very engineered experience. It’s not pipe smoking in the old fashioned sense. First, “You light the bowl and create suction establishing negative pressure that draws the hot smoke into the Incredibowl.” Second, “smoke spirals in the nozzle which causes it to cool, allowing the tars to get more solid and sticky. The cooled smoke passes through a screen leaving the tars behind.” Third, “the cool filtered smoke then expands into the Expansion Chamber. When the gases expand, they lose energy, causing them to cool.”  What is the difference between clearing the carb of a regular pipe, and clearing the Expansion Chamber of an Incredibowl?  Usually smokers lift the finger covering the carb hole and continue to draw air. With an Incredibowl, “you pull the Bowl/Armor, opening the annular Purge Carb. The negative pressure in the Expansion Chamber causes cool air to rush in through the geometrically arranged carb holes 360 degrees around the entire circumference of the piece. The rush of air cools the smoke one last time and pushes the cool smoke quickly and smoothly into your lungs.”

Tight gasket seals are the key to enjoying an Incredibowl. It works great. Using a bud of a homegrown caregiver variety called Preston, I enjoyed the cooler smoke. It was easier on the lungs, I didn’t cough, and nothing felt harsh.  I appreciate the design and ingenuity of the Incredibowl. It’s a solid and sturdy piece of equipment.  Tech loving cannabis smokers will love this pipe too.

For pipe smoking, it’s my preference to use colored glass.  After repeated use, some of the crevices and nooks on most pipes are hard to clean and the colored glass ultimately gives the eye something else to look at than the resin buildup.  I was hesitant to like the clear glass because I was concerned it wouldn’t age well.  The design of the Mycroft is simple, it looks super easy to keep clean with an alcohol bath and a few cotton swabs.

Another good feature in the Deluxe kit is the adjustable foam interior of the hard shell carrying case. The foam barrier is adaptable and the case has room enough to put a vial of cannabis and a lighter in with Incredibowl.

In summation, I highly recommend the Incredibowl. This is a high tech product with an innovative and effective design.

Read the  Consumer Confidential review of the Microvaped glass globe edition portable vaporizer. It’s designed for vaporizing concentrates.  Click on the link to see the review on page 2 of The Daily Doobie.

http://issuu.com/dailydoobie/docs/tdd_i8issuu

Vaped, a California company, makes luxury vaporizers.  The glass globe edition is a fill it yourself vaporizer. It retails around $90.  In brief, it’s good, I liked it.

The whole package comes in a metal travel tin, with a metal pick tool, the vaporizer pen  with a lithium ion battery, the glass globe with the refillable ceramic cup inside, a usb charger for the battery, and a one year warranty.  In terms of portability, this vaporizer needs to be protected for travel, it is not as slender, compact and portable as other vaporizer pens. There is no additional storage space for jars or canisters, you might want to include in the travel tin. Also, the spacing in the travel tin doesn’t allow the assembled vaporizer pen to be placed inside.

Overall, there were not a lot of instructions or explanations. The instructions provided are pretty simple. Click it on, remove the mouthpiece, fill the ceramic bowl, replace the mouthpiece hold the button and inhale a slow even draw.

The vaporizer pen is 5 inches in length. The glass globe comes apart into three pieces, the mouth piece, the glass globe exterior, and the center piece.  The plastic mouthpiece has a gasket seal at the base. It feels comfortable to use and doesn’t warm up with use like the glass.  The glass globe makes this vaporizer not as discreet as other vaporizer pens, but the heating element and smoke is visible. The button is easy to locate and use.

The center piece attaches to the battery on one side and the other side has the ceramic cup with a heating wire across the top. The ceramic bowl is small, it appears to be designed for concentrates and not bud/flowers.  Another clue this is exclusively for concentrates is the dab tool that comes in the kit.

I would prefer to have more information and care instructions for the ceramic bowl and the wire that crosses the top. It seems to be the most fragile and essential part of the unit. Is it ok to touch the wire with the pick tool? Do you put the concentrate on the wire or along the walls of the bowl?  According to the instructions only the mouthpiece is removed when loading the ceramic bowl, so touching the wire is very likely because it is being loaded from above. If the glass globe is removed to add concentrates, it is possible to use the edge of the bowl to scrape the pick clean and not touch the wire. The latter application method means removing the glass globe and putting more wear and tear on the glass and the sealing gasket.    I’m not really sure the best practice for product longevity, but I aimed to apply the concentrate on the inside of the ceramic wall and not touch the wire too much.  A look at the website shows replacement nails are available in 5 packs, so the ceramic cup is likely to be a part that needs replacing.

I sampled three varieties of concentrates, 2 waxes and a BHO. They all worked well with the vaporizer. The glass filled up with smoke, and the flavors tasted hearty. Sometimes with vaporizers, the experience can feel too ethereal, when I find myself saying, “I think I might feel something, but I’m not sure”.

I like being able to choose what concentrates to consume.  I don’t like being limited in choice by the replacement concentrate cartridges in other vaporizer pen models.  People who want the same adaptability would be interested in this vaporizer pen.

In summary, the Microvaped glass globe vaporizer pen performed well. It is easy to use.  It is less discreet and portable than other styles of vaporizer pens.  The advantage of this vaporizer pen is being more adaptable to fill with your choice of concentrates.

This last weekend was the first ever fully-legal 710 Cup, in Denver. The event included an extensive competition, educational panels, live art, glassblowing, three music stages, a marketplace dedicated to concentrates, equipment, art, dab culture, and dabbing. Here are the highlights of the event:

10) Orpheo & the Wrench The Grassroots Stage offered more musical variety than the two other stages, which were primarily dance whomp and wub wub wub DJs. Orpheo & the Wrench, a Denver based acoustic duo, played an enjoyable set and the most surprising part was their homespun spoof of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” telling a tale of the Devil going to Denver and getting smoked out. I was squealing with laughter.

9) Caps! Sporting a flat brim baseball cap, preferably a limited edition or one of kind painted cap, is essential for a casual, yet savvy, look for young men and women. Event sponsor, Grassroots California and Illinois based, Visual Fiber both had the most vibrant and extensive cap collections to choose from.

8) Green Man Cannabis Denver dispensary, Green Man Cannabis, has colorful and appealing T-shirts and stickers. Their booth was a fun stop in the vendor row. You could try to win a T-shirt of your choice in a modified corn hole game. You could yuck it up and have your picture taken with a bong smoking Jack Herer stand-in. The free “got THC?” temporary tattoos were a fun alternative to stickers.

7) Mahatma/Strainwise Mahatma, a Denver concentrate company, and Strainwise, a family of dispensaries, had a sleek, professional and comfortable booth in a spacious 10 x 20 tent. The booth was open and provided shade and a space to chill. Their booth had a tall dab bar, black leather couch and love seat, and a large urn of medicated iced tea. The 6 Million Dollar Man was comically posed with Mahatma’s 2013 Cannabis Cup for Best Concentrate on the dab bar.

5) The Green Team The do-good Green Team from Denver Relief walked the event site and kept the grounds clean to ensure cannabis events have a positive impact in the community by keeping things green and clean.

4) Grassroots California Grassroots California encouraged audience participation with a painted hat competition. 12 contestants entered the painted hat competition to win $710 in cash, $710 Grassroots gift card and limited edition hats with the winning design.

3) Collaborative street art mural Local artists Berk, Plaant and Sypages, painted the white side of an RV bus over the two-day event into a 710 Cup race car scene with the mascot driver winning the race and the other characters celebrating victory with a flaming torch and dab. The plaid cat is just stone cold chillin’.

2) Hitman Glass Hitman Glass, maker of rigs and pipes, has taken Brandalism and run with it. Brandalism is common in dab culture and Hitman Glass turns dozens of recognizable cartoons and product mascots into Hitman Glass advertisements. Ready for an epic guerilla marketing campaign, stickers, T-shirts and hats of the Monopoly Man, Popeye, Toucan Sam, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Felix the Cat, Tom and Jerry, Pacman and dozens of other familiar characters hold a dab rig and covertly advertise the underground world of dabbing and Hitman Glass.

1) Mila Jansen, the Queen of Marijuana. Mila Jansen, an inspiring woman and a cannabis pioneer, was onsite as a keynote speaker and an international judge for the solvent-less hash competition. She was presented with the Female Industry Achievement Award, by her most prolific student, Nikka T. of Essential Extracts. To find out more about her life and achievements, watch her film, Mila’s Journey, a recent documentary that explores several decades of Mila’s life, including her role in couture fashion, her life in India, the development of her cannabis career, and the lifestyle choices she made being a mother of four children.

I love candy. I’ve enjoyed it since childhood. I’ve also enjoyed the benefits of the cannabis plant family for almost two decades. But I simply love candy, the chewy kind being one of my favorite types. What could  possibly make chewy, gummy candy better? Adding hash oil! Besides being a cannabis consumer and candy lover, my day job is manufacturing colorful hash-infused treats for Dazys. I have  an excellent knowledge base for a thorough review of flavors and product potency.

Mountain Medicinals Hash Gummies, made by Dazys, are the best soft candy edible. I love these soft, sweet, chewy pillows of hash candy loveliness.  The gummies come in packages of four and are made with classic candy ingredients and fruit juices. Each one contains 20 mg of BHO hash oil extracted by Dazys sister company, Colorado Bubble Company. In some batches the hash taste is more noticeable. This variation results from recipe adjustments guided by CannLabs potency test results.

The six candy flavors are combined with 3 hash oil types, Sativa, Indica and hybrid. Blueberry and lime gummies contain Sativa hash oil.  Cherry and orange gummies have Indica hash oil. Grape and tropical gummies are made with a hybrid hash oil.  I have sampled all the flavors and my personal favorites are cherry and grape.

Edibles provide all the health benefits of marijuana without the adverse risks of smoking. The physical sensations are slightly different from smoking marijuana. The feeling resonates deeper, like a bass line, and lasts longer. Dosage is very important because an edible can also knock you out and leave you drooling.  I’m never in a hurry to eat an entire edible unless I know I want to go to sleep.  In small doses, marijuana relaxes me and helps me appreciate the everyday joys and blessings in my life.  In large doses, I’ve had mild psychedelic experiences and fabulously sound sleep.

My standard dosage for Mountain Medicinals Gummies is one to two pieces, depending on if my stomach is empty or full. If I eat three gummies or the whole package, I often get cottonmouth and need to have a water bottle near me to quench my thirst. I only eat three or more if I know I’m safe, I’m not going anywhere and do not have any responsibilities or major decisions to make.

To test out the latest batch, I took a joy ride into the sunset on the new RTD light rail line, the W, one evening after work. I decided to eat two pieces.  I ate the first gummy on the westbound station platform while waiting 10 minutes for the train to arrive. Thirty minutes later on the train, relaxing and feeling more comfortable in my body, I noticed my various pains weren’t so loud to me. As they faded into the background of my experience, with the glorious sunset unfolding over the fascinating scenery—familiar yet completely new—I was all smiles. What a lovely moment.  The train passed above the highway on a monorail section to the last stop in Golden.  Time to head back to Denver.  As the light rail cruised over the highways and through Lakewood neighborhoods, I discreetly ate the second cherry gummy. Yum yum yum.

30 minutes passed in a state of blissful enjoyment as I took in the view. A young mother with two small children was sitting across the aisle from me. At one point, my eyes were drawn to the poster above this trio heralding the advent of the new line, in the shape of a bull’s head packed with imagery, including the train’s nose, something resembling an animal’s backbone probably meant to suggest a train track, and rounded boob-like mountains along the left edge. Feeling mischievous, I briefly considered asking this woman: “Do the advertising graphics seem boobalicious to you? Because I see a mountain range.”  Tetons were everywhere, the graphics were spot on.

By the end of the light rail trip, I started feeling ravenously hungry, inspiring a dash to the comforts of home. I departed the light rail at Union Station, feeling great, and located my bicycle parked downtown. Riding through the city, enjoying the exercise and the spring breeze refreshing my spirit, I felt so free and amazed and alive. Nearing my apartment on High Street, I laughed as I peddled, wondering whether LSD discoverer, Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman, felt like this as he rode his bike home during his first experience on acid.  Life is sweet.

Mountain Medicinals hash gummy candies are a handmade, fun to eat, and reliably potent treat.

Susan still enjoys making  edibles but no longer works at Dazys.
